What is Defragmentation?

Defragmentation is process of rewriting files on the disk clusters next to each other and eliminating space in between. Defragmentation reduces amount of time required your system to look for a file stored various clusters not next to each other.

How to Defragment the Hard Drive

Defragment using Local Disk Properties:
1. Double click My Computer icon on your desktop or click Start | My Computer
2. Right-click the local disk volume that you want to Defragment, and then click Properties.
3. Click on the Tools tab, click Defragment Now.
4. Click Defragment

Defragment using system tools:
1. Click Start
2. Select All Programs
3. Select Accessories
4. Select System Tools and click Disk Defragmenter
5. Choose a local disk volume to Defragment and click Defragment
