Windows XP Disk Management Utility

Using Windows XP Disk Management allows you to view logical and physical layout of your hard drives. It also allows to create new partitions or delete existing partition.

Accessing Disk Management

How to Access Disk Management Utility:
1. Click Start and click Run
2. Type compmgmt.msc in the text box and then click OK.
3. In the console tree, click Disk Management.
Your disks volumes appear in a graphical view. You must have adminstrator rights to utilize this utility


Access Disk Management from the Control Panel
1. click Start and then Control Panel
2. Click Administrative Tools icon
3. Click Computer Management icon
4. Select Disk Managment from left console tree

Create New Partition or a new logical drive

To create a new partition;
Right click unallocated space on the disk and click New Partition.
2. New Partition Wizard popus up, click next
3. Select type of partition to create (Primary partition, Extended partition, or Logical drive)
3. Specify the size of the partition in the Partition size in MB box, and then click Next.
4. Decide whether to manually assign a drive letter or let the system automatically decide the drive letter, clck Next
5. Click finish to confirm
