Windows XP Networking

If you own more than one computer, it is best to setup a network connection to share the common resources such as printers, folders and the internet.
Before setting up your network, you will have to connect your computers, printers, and other network hardware devices to gether either by NIC (Network Interface Card) or USB. Also connect your common resource such the Internet modem and printers to the host computer. You may want to purchase hub or router to connect more than two computers.
In whichever method suites or you prefer, Windows XP made easy to set up peer-to-peer networking or single server networking.

Setting up network using Windows XP Network Setup Wizard

Before you start the Network Wizard, make sure you connect all your network resource and login to your computer as an adminstrator.

1. Click Start and connect to, then click Show all connections or go to Control panel and double click Network Connections
2. Click set up home or small office network in the left pane under the network task
3. Read the notes before you continue to the next screen and make sure you follow the instructions
4. Choose if this computer is directly connected to the internet or use another computer to connect or choose other if both cases do not apply, click next
5. Read the prompts carefully and make sure you select right connection
6. Click next to the computer name screen
7. Type the name of your workgroup. You can use the default name; MSHOME
8. Turn on or off printer and file sharing option
9. Click finish once the installation completes

Share printers over the network

If your computer(s) set up for network, you can easly share your printer with all your network computers. To do this, follow these simple instrucktions.
1. Click Start, Control Panel, and double click Printers & Faxes or click Start and click Printers & Faxes
2. Click Share this printer icon under the printer task menu in the left pane
3. Click sharing tap once the printer properties dialog box pops up
4. Select Share this printer and clic apply then click ok

Share folders over the network

If your computer(s) set up for network, you can easly share your folders and files with all your network computers. To do this, follow these simple instrucktions.
1. Select and right click folder to share
2. Click Properties
3. Click sharing tap once the folder properties dialog box pops up
4. Select Share this folder on the network and clic apply then click ok
