Windows XP & Computer System Information

There are various ways to access the System Properties. The easiest and shortest ways is to; right click My Computer icon on your desktop or on the start menu and click on properties

The second easiest way is to go; Start Menu , Control Panel, and double click System icon in the control panel.
Under the General Tab; displays the windows and computer information as showing on the left picture.

The other main tab of the windows system properties is Hardware.
Hardware tab contains interface to device manger, drivers, and hardware profiles.
Computer name tab allows to view your computer name and work group.
Advance tab allows to setup Performance, User Profile, and startup & recovery information.

Note: if you do not know what you doing, DO NOT change default settings.

Windows XP Device Manager

The Device Manager allows you to view list of hardware peripherals attached to your computer. It also allows you to install or update drivers and view its operational state. A list device with yellow question mark indicates missing driver software.
To access the device manager;
Go to; Right click My Computer, click on Hardware in the system properties, and click on the Device Manager.

To install or update device driver;
Select and right click the device. Click on Update driver and install the driver from specific location or let the windows look for it.

Windows XP Device Dialog Box

This Dialog box displays the device information and allows to you set up, maintain and troubleshoot the device software.
To access the device dialog box;
Select and right click the device and click on Properties.
General tab shows the device information.
Driver tab allows you update, rollback, and uninstall the device driver. It also contains driver file and other information such as installed date.


Depend on the device type, there might be more or less tabs under this dialog box. If do not know what doing, do not interfere with the default settings.
